Self Development

Self-Development stems from the dutch word zelf meaning self and the french développement which comes from the old french desvelopemens meaning unrolling or unwrapping so self-development is the slow unwrapping of the self. What is already there and wrapped under layers and layers of programming is brought forward and manifested in a process not much different than a rebirth or reincarnation.

I firmly believe that this process of unwrapping our authentic self can be accelerated through a series of steps and habits that one needs to develop and master. The very first step one needs to take is to identify one’s role-models. If acceptable role-models are not present in one’s day-to-day life, one needs only start browsing the web or youtube.

The second step on this journey for true authentic self development is the sistematic breakdown of the secret reasons why one has chosen such role-models.

Depending on the models chosen in the first step, one can simplify the complexity of the world and categorise (albeit wrong but nonetheless helpful) one’s character into one of four generic archetypes. Based on two dimensions and their extremes. One such dimension is control and the other dimension is polarity. Of course, very few are an extreme version of such archetypes and this model is only helpful to more easily pick one’s models and accelerate one’s growth.

1. The Hedonist – minimum control, externally oriented polarity

The hedonist is always stuck in the present and craves constant stimulation. Never being completely at ease unless in the center of attention and feeling like the best in the room.

2. The Micromanager – maximum control, externally oriented polarity

The micromanager is almost obsessed with what everyone else is doing and feels the urge to constantly tell other people what to do. He/She is the workaholic that can’t stand to explore his own inside.

3. The Nihilist – minimum control, internally oriented polarity

The nihilist is absolutely convinced that nothing matters anyway and will feel alone, no matter if in a room full of people or completely alone. It’s easy to tell them by the style of music they listen where everyone is an enemy.

4. The Ascetic – maximum control, internally oriented polarity

The ascetic is the one obsessed with always becomming better, paying that price with the almost inability to truly enjoy anything they achieve. One can identify them by the arrogance in their voice stemming from their belief that they are better than everyone else.

On the positive note, each archetype is also amazing at a specific set of tasks. The hedonist throws the biggest parties, they are a magnet for people and everybody loves and hates them at the same time. The Micromanager is the perfect person to be in charge of projects where mistakes are intolerable. The Nihilist is the best at identifying weak spots and blind spots in any and all plans. And the ascetic is the best being an example for others’ growth.

Once one knows what archetype they currently match best, one can more easily find role models that fit one’s nature.

I tending strongly towards the ascetic for many years now have sought mentors and models that strongly resonate with work ethic, discipline, accelerated growth.

Who is Alex Eftimie?

I was Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania, except for vacations which I mostly spent with my only younger brother at our grandparents. Like many other Romanians from my generation. 

Third generation into building and fixing things. One of my grandfathers was a house builder, the other one maintained the pumps and pipes of the village water source. And my father is a plumber and electrician. 

I loosely continued the family business so to say, as in I spent the first 15 years of my career building websites and apps which are a different kind of house and also at the same time in internet networking which is just a massive collection of pipes.

In 2018 I slowly and steadily aka kicking and screaming started to distance myself from IT. Made some money on an exit. And was on the lookout for the next big thing. 

And in 2019 I finished the Metasysteme Coaching School for Managers and Leaders and started to practice coaching as a way to change paths from IT and I humorously discovered that coaching is a lot like building houses in your mind and tending to pumps and pipes in your thoughts and feelings which is basically just a fancier version of what I did in IT. 

Right now I am a Coach, a Manager and a Teacher juggling a few businesses of my own. And I spend most of my time finding creative ways to help all my clients achieve their desired outcomes.
